Health Education

Health Education

What is it?

Our health education efforts include training teachers and parents on pediatric first aid and promoting healthy lifestyle choices. We do this through a combination of workshops and online video resources developed in partnership with leading public health figures, such as Dr. Aleksandar Mitov in North Macedonia. Topics covered in the workshops and videos include diet and nutrition, exercise, stress, emotional/spiritual health, smoking, and COVID-19.

What are the results?

Through our pediatric first aid program we have trained over 1,500 teachers and parents in North Macedonia, and our series of healthy living videos with Dr. Mitov have well over 1 million views combined. You can also access and share our pediatric first aid videos at www.prvapomos.mk and healthy living videos at www.bidizdrav.mk.

Public Health Consulting

Public Health Consulting

What is it?

We link our international network of public health experts with local partners around pressing challenges such as infant mortality and smoking prevalence. Regarding infant mortality, for over a decade we have partnered with the Macedonia Children’s Hospital and other key public health institutions in North Macedonia to lower infant mortality. Currently our focus is on addressing the high prevalence of smoking in North Macedonia, where almost 50% of the adult population smokes. We are partnering with Virginia Tech University to conduct surveying and develop evidence-based interventions aimed at lowering the rate of smoking.

How can
you join?

Through our efforts to raise the standards of clinical care, as well as the efforts of many other stakeholders, infant mortality in North Macedonia has been reduced by about 50% in the last 7 years. Our survey results on smoking in North Macedonia are in the process of being published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Community Service

Community Service

What is it?

LinkAcross brings together volunteers to improve communities in practical ways, such as building playgrounds, as well as to serve the vulnerable, such as helping families in pediatric oncology. Our playground projects build more than safe and fun playground structures, they build community. The playgrounds are built almost exclusively using volunteer labor from community members and beneficiaries. The logic is simple: if you help build it, you will take care of it. Also, up until COVID-19, we were running a volunteer program for children and families battling cancer in the Children’s Hospital Oncology Department in Skopje.

What are the results?

Thousands of volunteer hours have resulted in 12 playgrounds built across Macedonia, with beneficiaries ranging from schools and preschools, to the Children’s Hospital, to a group home for foster kids. Also, we have served dozens of families battling childhood cancer through creative activities and material assistance.
